Russia ‘to protect its Arctic rights’
Russia believes the High Arctic must be free of military muscle-flexing by any power. At the same time, it warns that efforts by foreign states to build up military capabilities in the area may force it to respond in kind.
Chief Secretary of the Russian government’s Maritime College Alexander Balyberdin was speaking about this at an international forum in Moscow on Wednesday.
He mentioned, among other things, foreign programmes to construct cutting-edge ice-class warships.
