One more Japan nuclear plant in trouble
News reports in Japan speak about a radiation leak from a reactor at the Tsuruga nuclear power station, in Fukui Prefecture in the southwest of the country’s main Honshu island. The operators of the plant dismiss the reports as alarmist and say radiation levels around the station are within the norm.
Japan’s catastrophic earthquake and tsunami on March 11th knocked out cooling systems at the Fukushina nuclear plant, causing a series of explosions. Leaks did occur, forcing the authorities to establish and enforce a 20-kilometre evacuation radius.
