US nuclear power plants aren’t sufficiently safe
Most US nuclear power plants lack a sufficiently effective protection system.
They cannot do without the primary power supply system for a long time, says an official of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
According to him, that time makes up just 4 hours, which is insufficient for restoring power supply. Such a long standing time is fraught with a release of radiation.
On Thursday a nuclear power plant was shut down in Alabama because of a tornado. Experts are in no rush to restart the plant.
