Russia and Algeria have common views
In Algeria Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had talks with that country’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and handed over a message from the Russian president to the Algerian leader.
“We had strategic consultations on all aspects of the events now taking place in this important region of the world”, Sergey Lavrov told journalists. He added that Russia and Algeria have a common view of the situation in the region and, in particular, in Libya where the unrest which began on the 15th of February has grown to a civil war in which a foreign coalition interfered on the 19th of March.
“We condemn any attempts to use military force against the civilian population,” the Russian minister emphasized. He said that Russia and Algeria stand for the principles of international law reigning supreme when solving any conflicts. These principles include non-interference in countries’ domestic affairs and the right of nations to self-determination.
