Mistral carriers for Russia's Pacific Fleet
At least one of four Mistral helicopter carriers which Russia plans to build in cooperation with France will be supplied for the needs of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, Chief of General Staff Nikolai Makarov said.
The carrier will guarantee the security of Russia’s Kuril Islands in the Far East.
Under the contract, two Mistral helicopter carriers will be built for Russia in France and two will be built at Russian shipyards using French technology.
The Mistral multi-purpose vessel can carry 450 paratroopers and 16 helicopters.
