Simon Bolivar's body exhumed
President Hugo Chavez has opened the coffin Simon Bolivar as Venezuela investigates the president's suspicions of foul play in the South American independence hero's death nearly two centuries ago.
A team of more than 50 forensic experts will carry out DNA testing on the remains to detemine whether Bolivar died of tuberculosis or fell victim to a plot.
While historians have generally concluded that Simon Bolivar died of tuberculosis in 1830 at the age of 47, Chavez has another theory - that Bolivar was murdered.
Hugo Chavez admires Bolivar as the inspiration for his Bolivarian Revolution.
