Seliger-2010 Forum Will Speak English
The Seliger-2010 International Educational Youth Forum is currently underway in the Tver Region (July 1st to 28th). Tens of thousands of young people from all parts of Russia meet in the summer tented camp on the bank of the picturesque Seliger Lake. An international shift will be held there for the first time this year. For a week English will turn into the official language of the Seliger-2010 Forum.
Since its inception in 2005 the Seliger-2010 youth forum has been generating a great deal of interest abroad. Therefore, the organizers have decided to invite youths from many countries, so that they will be able to see by their own eyes the scenic lake and to meet with their peers from Russia.
To become a participant of the international shift, you needed to fill in a form on the official forum’s website:
Besides, you needed to write a little essay and say a few words about yourself and about your achievements, and inform all those present of what the participants are ready to do to contribute to the forum’s work. For young people from Russia, who would like to take part in the international shift, speaking fluent English is a must. The knowledge of Russian is not obligatory for foreign participants. “We’re expecting to welcome here up to 1000 foreign guests from 100 countries.
"All these are, mainly, students and graduates of the leading institutes”, the head of the international shift Mikhail Mamonov said. "There’re many talented people here. Most of them write about concrete things concerning their future work, which the Seliger-2010 Forum might help them to obtain. There’re also some who present concrete projects. For example, to promote the development of a civil society in the African countries jointly with Russia. Others come up with the initiative to ensure Russia’s broader representation in mass media abroad. Actually, there’re many projects, which means that young people arrived at the Seliger camp not only for tanning or bathing."
An international shift will cover 6 areas, including world policy, mass media, business, civil society, ecology, art, and design. A very interesting educational programme has already been prepared. Foreigners will be able to learn more about Russia’s history and culture. To avoid biased opinions, lectures will be delivered by both Russian and foreign teachers from the leading institutes and universities of the world - such as the Oxford, Cambridge and New York universities. Well-known writers and journalists will give master classes, and politicians and experts will speak before the participants too. A real labour exchange will be open for the youths at the Seliger-2010 Forum. Meeting with the employers, the young people will be able to choose jobs they find promising enough for their career. From the issue of “brain drain” we’ve passed to the issue of “brain circulation”. It’s high time that brain should “circulate” in Russia too. The Seliger Youth Camp will work till July 28th.
"After the Seliger shift is over all participants will receive certificates, which they will be able to show at their institutes, and which will be regarded as part of their educational programme. The participation in the Seliger-2010 International Youth Forum is actually a refresher course for students, which will prove a good line in their resume later”, Mikhail Mamonov says.
