Ukraine should account for illegal arms exporters – Kiev
People responsible for illegal arms exports from Ukraine should be called to account – said Ukraine’s State Rada deputy Valery Konovalyuk during a video link between Moscow and Kiev. The Ukrspecexport arms trading company faced a scandal as it supplied weapons to Georgia before and during the South Ossetia conflict. At that time Russia accused Kiev of supplying the arms illegally. A parliamentary commission headed by Konovalyuk also claimed the infringements of international law and hoped the new president will call the shadow exporters to account. Ukraine’s Faina vessel, seized by Somali pirates in 2008, was illegally carrying 33 T-72 tanks and other weapons to Kenya.
