New Dagestan President sworn in, takes office
Dagestan’s new President Magomedsalam Magomedov has been sworn in and has taken office. The inauguration ceremony has been held at the Russian Drama Theatre in the republic’s capital city Makhachkala. Dmitry Medvedev’s message of greeting was read out by the deputy Russian Prime Minister, the presidential envoy to the North Caucasus federal district Alexander Khloponin. Medvedev voices certainty in his message that Magomedov’s expertise and business qualities will serve the best interests of all Dagestanis. Attending the ceremony were, among others, the Chechen and Karachayevo-Cherkessia leaders, Ramzan Kadyrov and Boris Ebzeev, delegations from other Russian territorial entities, and also from Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. Magomedov, the son of the former Dagestani leader Magomedali Magomedov, was approved by the republic’s legislature on the 10th of this month. He replaced Mukhu Aliev, who led the republic from 2006.
