The US Department of Justice (DOJ) on 18 April released a redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential race.

"Statements are made about me by certain people in the Crazy Mueller Report, in itself written by 18 Angry Democrat Trump Haters, which are fabricated & totally untrue. Watch out for people that take so-called 'notes,' when the notes never existed until needed. Because I never…." he said on Twitter.

The statement comes after a redacted version of US Special Councel Robert Mueller's report was released, confirming that there was no evidence of any collusion between Russia and Trump or his team during the 2016 US presidential campaign. The report, however, did not exonerate Trump of obstruction charges and concluded that Russia did try to interfere in the US election on his behalf.

The debate in Mueller's office on the matter of whether or not Trump obstructed justice centres around his unique authority and position as president of the United States, the report says.

One the one hand, according to the report, as the head of the country he has legal powers — such as the ability to fire FBI Director James Comey, as he did in May 2017 — but on the other, as president, his opinions and suggestions to associates about their disclosures during the investigation, whether public or private, bear undue weight compared to almost anybody else in the country. Trump's comments on 18 April referred to this debate.

Russia has repeatedly denied any accusations of meddling in the 2016 US presidential campaign.
