Trump Praises US Authorities' Rescue Measures Amid Harvey Hurricane

US President Donald Trump on Sunday praised the effective work of various agencies allowing the rescue of thousands of people from Harvey hurricane.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Harvey has been sweeping across the US Gulf Coast since Saturday. Earlier on Sunday, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Harvey continued to pose a deadly threat despite its gradual weakening.

"Great coordination between agencies at all levels of government. Continuing rains and flash floods are being dealt with. Thousands rescued," Trump wrote on Twitter.

The US president added that he planned traveling to the the southern state of Texas which suffered from the storm "as soon as that trip can be made without causing disruption."

"The focus must be life and safety," Trump said.

Hurricane Harvey Barrels Toward Texas as Category 4 Storm
Earlier on Sunday, media reported about the death of three people in Aransas County due to the storm, while local authorities of Houston and Rockport reportedly confirmed the death of two people.

Harvey was downgraded from hurricane to a tropical storm by the NHC late on Saturday. Harvey is the largest storm to hit the United States since the disastrous Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
