Trump Cheers at Republican Senators After Release of Obamacare Repeal Act
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US Senate voted against an amendment to partially repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), known as a "skinny" repeal, in a 49-51 vote early Friday.

"The motion is not agreed to. The amendment is not agreed to," the presiding officer of the Senate read out after a televised vote.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnel said in a speech "it is time to move on" following the failed attempt to reform ex-President Barack Obama's signature healthcare policy.

On Wednesday, the US Senate voted against an amendment that would completely repeal Obamacare, with a two- year delay during which a replacement would be created, in a 45-55 vote. The latest amendments to the draft bill, stipulating partial reform of the existing legislation, was a last resort for the Republicans to pass at least something in the Senate.

The most recent version of a new eight-page healthcare bill – called the Health Care Freedom Act but nicknamed "skinny repeal" bill by US media – sparked criticism from Democrats and a number of Republican lawmakers after the Congressional Budget Office announced in a report that 32 million US citizens covered by the current law would be without health insurance by 2026.
