WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The lawsuit filed by the Institute on behalf of seven people argues that individuals cannot be blocked from the president’s Twitter account solely because of their differing views, the release stated.
"The First Amendment applies to this digital forum in the same way it applies to town halls and open school board meetings. The White House acts unlawfully when it excludes people from this forum simply because they’ve disagreed with the president," Knight First Amendment Institute Executive Director Jameel Jaffer stated in the release.
Trump’s Twitter account has become an important source of news and information about the US government, and an important forum for speech by, to, or about the president, Jaffer added.
The lawsuit asks the court to order the White House to restore access to Trump’s twitter account for the seven individuals represented by the Institute in the case, the release stated.
