Top US Democrats require a probe into alleged Trump`s ties to Russian officials and cyberattacks at DNC or DCCC.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The FBI should look at whether Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his alleged ties to Russian officials contributed to cyberattacks at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) or the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), a letter from four top Democrats in the US House of Representatives said on Tuesday.

Alleged Russia-Linked Hackers Targeted Washington Think Tanks

"We are writing to request that the FBI assess whether connections between Trump campaign officials and Russian interests may have contributed to these attacks in order to interfere with the US presidential election, the letter from Congressman Elijah Cummings, John Conyers, Elliot Engel and Bennie Thompson stated.

The letter tells FBI Director James Comey that the American people need to know if any actions taken by Trump on behalf of Russian interests were related to the attacks against the Democratic Party's groups.

The letter cited numerous press reports about individuals with ties to Trump's campaign that allegedly have ties to Russia.

Obama Must Weigh Deterrence Over Legacy in Cyber Talks with Russia, China

"We do not know if Donald Trump's public statements or the connections of his campaign officials to Russian interests directly or indirectly led to the cyberattacks against Democratic party organizations," the letter acknowledged.

However, the lawmakers also noted that there is widespread agreement the United States should take "all steps possible to prevent Russia from interfering in our electoral process and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone involved in such a scheme."

The Kremlin has said repeatedly, and as recently as earlier on Tuesday, that statements accusing Russia of involvement in any cyberattacks on the US election system or the Democratic Party are groundless, based on nothing and totally unfounded.
