On Monday, a federal judge refused to place an injunction on a new law that allows college students to carry concealed handguns into classrooms, and, in protest, opponents to the new law will strap dildos to their backpacks on the first day of class.

The campaign, playfully titled “cocks not glocks,” was launched by University of Texas alumni Jessica Jin. Organizers have collected over 4,000 dildos from sponsors to hand out to students who wish to display them in protest.

“It offers a visual representation of what it would look like if the gun lobby really got what it wanted,” Jin told the Observer of the campaign, “which is the complete normalization of gun culture.”

The campaign aims to point out the absurdity of allowing guns but banning dildos.

From the University of Texas rulebook:

"Subchapter 13–200. Prohibited Expression

Sec. 13–201. Obscenity

No person or organization will distribute or display on the campus any writing or visual image, or engage in any public performance, that is obscene. A writing, image, or performance is “obscene” if it is obscene as defined in Texas Penal Code, Section 43.21 or successor provisions, and is within the constitutional definition of obscenity as set forth in decisions of the United States Supreme Court."

On Tuesday, the group held a rally at the school to hand out sex toys.

“Hey chronic college procrastibators, we know you're gonna need a last minute dildo before classes start! Come to the west mall at 5pm on Tuesday for our pre-rally! Penis face paint, penis cupcakes, penis jugglers on unicycles, and speeches laced with pun-ises,” a statement on the Cocks Not Glocks Facebook page read.

The group also held an event on Monday, handing out 500 large fake penises. Students were asked to bring their school identification cards to the Spider House Cafe and Ballroom to receive one. The event was dubbed, “Pre Come and get your COCK not Glock.”

The campaign has also made a line of t-shirts with slogans such as “take it and come,” a play on the pro-gun slogan “come and take it.”

The bill being protested, Senate Bill 11, took effect August 1. It not only allows students to carry weapons into classrooms, but also prevents schools in some areas from prohibiting it.

“You're carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I'm carrying a HUGE DILDO,” the Cocks Not Glocks Facebook states.

Three professors requested an injunction against the concealed carry law on Monday, claiming that the wording is too vague, violates freedoms, and endangers people in classrooms, but the judge did not agree.

"The court has searched the jurisprudence of this country from the ratification of the Constitution forward and has found no precedent for plaintiffs' proposition that there is a right of academic freedom so broad that it allows them such autonomous control of their classrooms both physically and academically that their concerns override decisions of the legislature and the governing body of the institution that employs them. Their First Amendment claim is and must be bottomed on their right to speak and teach freely. Neither the Campus Carry Law nor the Campus Carry Policy forbids them from doing so,” US District Judge Lee Yeakel wrote in the 11-page order.

Meanwhile, Open Carry Texas, a pro-gun group, is planning to counter protest the Cocks Not Glocks event on Wednesday as classes begin, so far, their Facebook event has 50 RSVPs. The Cocks Not Glocks event page has over 10,000.
