"I am disappointed by the president's decision to continue pushing forward on the disastrous Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement that will cost American jobs, harm the environment, increase the cost of prescription drugs and threaten our ability to protect public health," Sanders stated.
Earlier on Friday, the US Office of the Trade Representative posted a draft statement describing significant administrative actions for implementing the TPP agreement that will be sent to Congress for approval.
The Democratic Party leadership, Sanders said, should join presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to oppose holding a vote on TPP "during the lame-duck session of Congress and beyond."
On October 5, 2015, 12 countries of the Pacific Rim region, including the United States and Canada, reached an agreement on the TPP trade deal, intended to deregulate trade among the signatories, which together make up some 40 percent of the world economy. The deal has yet to be ratified by the signatory countries.
