US Defense Official Attends NATO Meeting in Brussels to Discuss Innovation
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Carter made the announcement at a ceremony to open a related Defense Innovation Unit-Experimental (DIUx) office the near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in Boston.

"Over the last 11 months — since we first opened the doors of the West Coast office in Silicon Valley — DIUx has become a signature part of our outreach to the tech community, Carter stated.

Carter has emphasized cooperative efforts between the Defense Department, executives of US technology companies, entrepreneurs and scientists at leading universities to help the US military maintain qualitative edge over competitors.

The Boston DIUx office will complement a facility opened last year in California’s Silicon Valley. Both offices are charged with speeding up the development of new technologies for military use, Carter explained.

In Tuesday’s ceremony, Carter also announced the appointment of Bezos and eight other members of the Defense Innovation Advisory Board, including Marne Levine, chief operating officer of Instagram and computer theorist Danny Hillis, co-founder of Applied Inventions.
