WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Feed the Future program targets 19 countries in Africa, Asia and Central America with investments in agriculture and by providing nutrition support to women and children, according to published reports.
"This is a bipartisan bill that authorizes more than $7 billion so that initiatives like ‘Feed the Future’ endure well into the future. So let’s sustain this progress. Let’s make hunger history," Obama said on Wednesday.
Obama touted successes from the program thus far, saying US efforts have helped more than 9 million farmers across the globe, boosted incomes by more than $800 million, cut poverty in some areas by up to one quarter and provided better nutrition for nearly 18 million children.
