MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The killing of an African American man who was shot by a police officer outside a convenience store in Louisiana's Baton Rouge has sparked public protests, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to The Advocate newspaper, the name called Alton Sterling received multiple gunshots to the chest and back. The incident took place after an anonymous caller reported that a black man selling CDs outside the shop threatened him with a gun. The police officers arrived at the scene and after "some type of altercation” killed Sterling.
According to the media outlet, over 200 people gathered at the parking lot near the convenience store, including black community leaders and politicians.
