The United States stands besides Turkey after Tuesday’s deadly terrorist attack on the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, a coordinated terrorist attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport left at least 41 people dead and more than 240 injured.

"We stand in very strong solidarity with our friends in Turkey," Blinken stated. "And I know that our thoughts are with so many of those friends and colleagues across the water."

Blinken called Turkey a US ally, friend and NATO partner and lamented the fact the country became once again a victim of terrorism.

"[T]his is unfortunately a scenario that we’ve seen repeat itself all too frequently in recent months in Turkey," Blinken noted.

Although no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Istanbul, all signs point to Daesh, which just marked a two-year anniversary of declaring an Islamic caliphate in territories in Syria and Iraq.
