NEW YORK (Sputnik) — If elected into office, the US Treasury will be instructed to term China a currency manipulator, presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said during a speech on Tuesday.
"I’m going to instruct my Treasury Secretary to label China a currency manipulator, which should have been done years ago," Trump told a campaign rally in Monessen, Pennsylvania.
Trump as well as US lawmakers regularly accuse China of unfair trade practices, including via currency manipulation.
China has repeatedly denied reports it has manipulated its currency for economic benefit.
The United States and China are the world’s first and second largest economies, respectively.
