Orlando Pulse Massacre: 'Most Horrific Day' in City's History

Sunday’s shooting in the US city of Orlando that claimed nearly 50 lives is the most appalling day in the city’s history, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said in a statement on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US national Omar Mateen, killed 49 people and injured 53 at Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday. The Orlando massacre has become the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States.

“Yesterday was the most horrific day in the history of the city of Orlando,” Dyer said.

​“And yet, I stand here today even more proud of our community because they came together, united to support the families and friends of the victims. “We will not be defined by the act of a cowardly hater.”

The mayor praised the actions of the police, medical personnel, as well as the FBI in the wake of the attack.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina confirmed in a press conference on Monday that Mateen pledged allegiance to Daesh jihadists. Mateen was killed by the police at the shooting scene.
