US Democratic Party presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton revamped her schedule to add campaign stops in California as left-wing challenger Democratic Sanders continued to canvass the battleground state, the US press reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Clinton scrapped the original plan to campaign in New Jersey for two days in favor of a June 2-7 swing in California, The Washington Post daily said.

The California primary is scheduled to be held June 7, alongside five other states, to allocate the nation's largest share of 475 pledged delegates.

Sanders drew sizable crowds in over a dozen cities there in the past week alone. Recent polls suggested Clinton’s lead over Sanders tightened in California in the past month.

Last week, Sanders announced a plan to shift momentum with a decisive victory in California and win the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

Clinton maintains a 1,769-1,497 pledged delegate lead over Sanders en route to clinch 2,343 delegates. Moreover, 540 unelected superdelegates declared their support toward Clinton, against 42 who backed Sanders.

Five other states – Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota – also are scheduled to hold primaries on that day, while North Dakota party activists will choose their convention delegates in caucuses.
