Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has pulled slightly ahead of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the first time since October in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, a Rasmussen Reports poll revealed on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In addition, Trump’s appeal to voters in the opposing party, Democrats, bests Clinton’s appeal to Republicans, the poll revealed.

"Trump picks up 15 percent of Democrats, while just eight percent of GOP [Grand Old Party] Republican voters prefer Clinton," said a press release with the poll.

Overall, 41 percent of likely US voters surveyed picked Trump, compared with 39 percent for Clinton, the poll explained.

Because polls have a margin of error, the likely nominees for the November general election are statistically tied. Moreover, if respondents are given a third option, such as not voting at all, the two candidates tie with 38 percent report, the poll noted.
