Cruz, Kasich Join Forces to Stop Trump From Winning
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — None of the three Republican presidential candidates will get enough votes to secure the party’s presidential nomination, so the party will have to hold a contested convention, presidential hopeful and US Senator Ted Cruz said in a press conference on Monday.

"It is now abundantly clear nobody is getting to 1,237," Cruz stated of the number of delegates needed to win the nomination on the first ballot at the Republican Party’s convention in July. "We are headed to a contested convention."

On Sunday, Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich announced an agreement to divide some of the remaining states to stop their rival businessman Donald Trump from winning the Republican presidential nomination.

Money Talks: Who is Financing the US Presidential Campaign?
Many analysts have stated that US real estate tycoon Trump looks set to win 1,237 delegates needed to become the Republican Party’s nominee.

Cruz argued, however, that Trump is "desperate" because he should realize that reaching the set number of votes is impossible.

He added that the deal with Kasich was "entirely about the will of the people."

On Sunday, Cruz’s campaign manager Jeff Roe said in a statement that having Trump as the nominee would be a sure disaster for Republicans.
