WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are running neck and neck in the US states of Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island ahead of the primaries there, a Public Policy Polling survey revealed on Monday.
In Connecticut, the former US secretary of state is leading the Vermont senator 48 to 46, in Rhode Island, Clinton has a three point lead over Sanders at 49-45, while in Pennsylvania Clinton holds a 10 point lead over her rival at 48-46, according to the survey.
"The Democratic races in Connecticut and Rhode Island appear to be toss ups, with Clinton and Sanders each having a slight advantage in one of the states," Public Policy Polling stated.
The survey noted that in Connecticut, Clinton’s lead is attributed to support from African Americans, while in Rhode Island Sanders has won support from independents planning to vote in the Democratic primary.
At present, analysts predict that Clinton will win the Democratic Party’s nomination in the presidential race after Sanders' was hit by a major defeat in New York. Prior to the primary contest in New York, Sanders won eight of nine previous primary elections and caucuses.
