The number of suicides grew from 10.5 to 13.0 per 100,000 people in the United States, according to the US National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The number of suicides, particularly among women, has been growing in the United States, increasing 24 percent since 1999, US National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) said in a report on Friday.

“From 1999 through 2014, the age-adjusted suicide rate in the United States increased 24%,” the report stated. “Percent increases in suicide rates since 1999 for females aged 15–24, 25–44, and 65–74 ranged between 31% and 53%.”

The NCHS said the number of suicides grew from 10.5 to 13.0 per 100,000 people. The statistics center noted that the pace of increase has become even greater after 2006.

In 2014, more than 55 percent of suicides by men involved the use of firearms, while poisoning became the main reason of women’s deaths.
