At Least 12 US Citizens Injured in Brussels Attacks

At least US citizens were injured in Brussels terror attacks, US State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner said in a statementd on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — At least 12 Americans were injured in the terrorist attacks in Brussels and more remain unaccounted for, US State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner said in a statementd on Wednesday.

"At this time, we are aware of approximately a dozen US citizens injured in the attacks. At this time, we are not aware of any US citizen deaths," Toner stated.

Toner added that "a number of US citizens remain unaccounted for."

On Tuesday, at least 31 people were killed and some 270 injured in two bomb blasts in Brussels' Zaventem airport and an explosion at a metro station in the city.

Following the triple bombing, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that three US citizens who had been serving as Mormon missionaries in Paris had been injured in the Brussels attacks.

The US European Command (EUCOM) confirmed on Tuesday that a US military service member and his family were injured in the explosions.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
