WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Authorities in the US state of Colorado are evacuating a part of the Denver International Airport's main terminal to investigate a possible security threat, the airport announced via Twitter.

Denver police were currently at the scene investigating, the airport authority noted, and no vehicle traffic was being allowed into the west side of the terminal, while the east side still remained open to passengers.

Meanwhile, the airport authority warned that flight delays were possible and the affected airline ticket counters included: American, Aero Mexico, Air Canada, Lufthansa and British Airways.

The Denver International Airport evacuation comes less than 24 hours after terrorist attacks were carried out at the Brussels Zaventem Airport as well as a local metro station earlier on Tuesday, killing 34 people and injuring more than 200 others.

Following the attacks, the US Department of Homeland Security said that it was ramping up security at major airports and transportation hubs around the United States, but said that they had not yet received any credible information about any potential terrorist attacks.
