Denis Flynn, who alleges that he suffered a decade of continual sexual abuse by the California couple who adopted him from a Russian orphanage when he was nine years old, went public on Wednesday to share his story.

Flynn, now 23, detailed how, after being adopted from the orphanage, life was wonderful for about three months.

While UN peacekeeping missions in countries such as the CAR and Haiti are designed to bring calm to countries plagued by internal conflict, there are growing concerns over the effects such abuses on local women and children and what long-term impacts they will have on these countries. - Sputnik International

“I was given a few months to enjoy my new life, and after that he invited me to the bedroom,” Denis Flynn told reporters. “It got to the point where it was every morning, every afternoon, every evening.”

Denis said his adopted father, Ralph Flynn, 71, sexually molested him and forced him to perform oral sex acts. When he turned 15, his adopted mother Carolyn Flynn, 47, joined in the abuses.

"That was my first time. That was a mind trip as well. I lost my virginity to my mom,” he stated. The abuse continued until he was 19. “For a long time, they told me what they did was right, what they did was out of love,” he said.

Police reports show that Denis attempted suicide multiple times during the years of his abuse, reporting the crimes to a psychologist in 2012, who then passed the information to the local sheriff’s office.

"I want people to know that what they did to me was wrong," Flynn said. "I would like any other victims listening to this to know that they did nothing wrong. They have a voice. Hopefully I can inspire some inner courage to speak out."

The couple was arrested in November 2015, and Ralph was charged with 44 counts relating to the molestation, including incest, sexual abuse of a child, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, and lewd and lascivious acts on a child. Carolyn was charged with 21 counts of a similar nature.

Ralph Flynn confessed to the abuse shortly thereafter, and wrote his adopted son a letter of apology, claiming he was "blinded by my affection," and stating, "I regret everything and wish we could start over anew,” the San Jose Mercury News reported. His wife denied her role in the abuse.

The couple also have a biological son, though Denis is unsure whether he also faced abuse at his parents’ hands.

The mother is free on $525,000 bond, while the father remains at the Elmwood Correctional Complex with a $2.5 million bail. A gag order has been put in place on the case, and neither of the parents has entered a plea.

Along with the criminal case, Denis Flynn is also suing in civil court for undisclosed damages.

"Everything they own," the young man’s attorney, Richard Alexander, told the Mercury News, "constructively belongs to the young man."
