WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama has ordered the US flag to fly at half-staff at all public buildings and military posts around the United States, its territories and abroad to honor late First Lady Nancy Reagan who died a day earlier, the White House said in a statement on Monday.
"As a mark of respect for the memory of Nancy Reagan, I hereby order…the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military post and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories," Obama announced.
Obama said that the US flag would be flown at half-staff until sunset and would also be lowered in honor of Mrs. Raegan at US embassies, legations, consular offices and other military facilities, naval vessels and stations abroad.
On Sunday, the Reagan Library confirmed that the former first lady died from congestive heart failure at the age of 94.
