WASHINGTON, (Sputnik) — The United States is seeking information from Russia related to potential violations of the ceasefire in Syria, US Department of State spokesperson John Kirby said on Monday.
"There have been reports of violations, however, and we take all such reports extremely seriously," Kirby stated. "With respect to airstrikes in areas where opposition groups taking part in the cessation of hostilities may be active, we are seeking further information, including directly from Russia."
Following the implementation of the ceasefire, reports soon emerged accusing Russia and Syria of carrying out airstrikes against areas controlled by the allegedly moderate Syrian opposition included in the ceasefire deal, accusations that Moscow has denied.
Kirby added that the United States welcomes the overall reduction in violence, and is aware that another convoy was preparing to deliver food, medicine and supplies in Syria.
Earlier, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said it was too early to tell whether Russia had violated the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
