"Unfortunately, it is now impossible to either confirm or deny the fact that two of adopted children are Russian citizens and have been adopted once, as the Sheriff's Office does not disclose information both on details of the incident and last names of the victims," the diplomat said.
According to the consulate, all the information on the incident circulating in media relies on reports of the family's neighbor, who insists that there have been three adopted children, including one girl from China.
"It is impossible to make 100-percent conclusions based on the words of a neighbor. Children can speak Russian, but be nationals of neighboring countries — Ukraine or Belarus," the assistant added.
"They [US authorities] will provide all the additional information with details to a possible extent on Saturday, after the bodies are identified," the diplomat said.
According to the diplomat, the US side has failed to provide the Consulate with any information on the case beside what has been released to the press.
"We are in constant contact with the [Russian] Foreign Ministry and the local law enforcement agencies, from which we expect in the nearest time, tomorrow the latest, to gain information to understand whether this is true or not," the diplomat said.
"We have not yet received this information [on alleged citizens of Ukraine being among victims of the shooting]. We will find it out from police and law enforcement bodies, we have an appropriate procedure," the diplomat said.
