Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the Democratic Iowa caucus with 49.8 percent of the Democratic caucus votes, while her competitor Bernie Sanders gained 49.6 percent, according to official results.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has won the Democratic Iowa caucus with a razor thin lead over her competitor Bernie Sanders, according to official results released on Tuesday.

Clinton won 49.8 percent of the Democratic caucus votes, while Sanders gained 49.6 percent, the results showed. Former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley finished the race gaining 0.5 percent of caucus voter support, and announced he would drop from the US presidential race.
