Many Democrats Refuse to Back Bill to Fund US Government Through 2016

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that democrats in the US House of Representatives may not vote in sufficient numbers to pass a compromise deal to keep the federal government running.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Democrats in the US House of Representatives may not vote in sufficient numbers to pass a compromise deal to keep the federal government running, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told a press conference on Thursday.

"We have serious unease in our caucus," Pelosi admitted. "It’s up to them [the majority Republicans in the House] to have the votes."

Earlier on Thursday, Pelosi sent word she would be voting for the huge $1.1 trillion omnibus bill on Friday to fund the US government through Fiscal Year 2016, but House Speaker Paul Ryan insisted the bill be twinned with $625 billion in tax cuts that Democrats fiercely oppose.

"Tax cuts for the wealthy… The idea of a future built on the quicksand of tax breaks making the deficits even larger is just plain wrong… It’s a Trojan horse and they're using it to shift jobs overseas. It's appalling, " Pelosi stated.

Pelosi also said approval for massive oil exports to the global market that the Republicans had insisted on including in the legislation were strongly opposed by the House Democratic caucus, and would probably lead to many Democrats refusing to support the legislation.
