WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The protests come as millions of Americans around the country shop during one of the country’s largest retail sales known as Black Friday.
"What do we want? Fifteen dollars!" New York Daily News reported the protesters as saying on Friday in New York City outside of heiress Alice Walton’s apartment complex.
Earlier in the year, Walmart announced that starting on February 2016, its current employees would earn at least $10 an hour and the company would invest some $100 million in its workers’ economic mobility.
The current US federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. However, many US states including New York have chosen to increase wages above the federal minimum up to $13 per hour.
