WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A gathering will take place at the Baltimore City Hall on Wednesday evening in memory of victims of US police brutality across the United States, advocacy group Baltimore Bloc said via Twitter on Wednesday.

Tyrone West died on July 18, 2013 after an encounter with the police in northwest Baltimore. Law enforcement have stated West fought police officers when they pulled him over, but his family maintains they beat him to death.

The United States has seen waves of protests in the past 18 months over a series of incidents in which police killed unarmed civilians. US police have killed at least 1,000 Americans in 2015.

"As we lift the name of Tyrone West, we also lift the names of Laquan McDonald and Jamar Clark, and show our love and solidarity with our sisters and brothers fighting in Minneapolis and Chicago," the Baltimore Bloc said.

On November 15, Minneapolis police fatally shot Jamar Clark, 24, after they claim he tried to disarm an officer. However, activists claim Clark was lying handcuffed on the ground and was not resisting at the time of the shooting.

Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke shot 16 times 17-year-old Laquan McDonald on October 20, 2014. Chicago authorities charged Van Dyke with first degree murder on Tuesday.
