WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — “We urge you to address an aspect of the high-volume gun seller loophole that allows guns to be sold without a background check by eliminating the ambiguity surrounding the term ‘engaged in the business’ as it pertains to federally licensed firearms dealers,” the letter stated.
Updating the definition of the controversial term, the senators suggested, would provide more explicit guidance as to which gun sellers are required to obtain a federal firearms license.
“[That would] help ensure that individuals are not able to continue to exploit ambiguity in the current regulation,” the letter added.
The letter concluded that changing the definition of the term would also help push universal background checks on all potential and current gun owners seeking to gain access to more weapons.
The Second Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees the right of US citizens to keep and bear arms.
