WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is not being threatened by Paris-like terrorist attacks, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey said in a briefing.
“We are not aware of any credible threat here of a Paris-type attack,” Comey said Thursday. “We have seen no connection at all between the Paris attackers and the United States.”
On November 13, several executed a series of coordinated attacks at venues across Paris, killing some 130 people and injuring over 350, at restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and in the vicinity of the Stade de France stadium.
"The threat here focuses primarily on troubled souls in America who are being inspired or enabled online to do something violent for ISIL," Comey stated.
In October, US House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul announced that the number of domestic terrorist cases involving homegrown Islamists in 2015 is the highest since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
McCaul said ISIL terrorist group alone has inspired or directed 17 terror plots in the United States since early 2014.
Earlier in October, Assistant US Attorney General John Carlin announced that the Unites States has created a new position at the Department of Justice to help US Attorneys combat domestic terrorism more effectively.
