Obama Says Supports Russia's Anti-ISIL Fight
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama has been urging international partners to provide additional equipment to Syrian groups fighting the Islamic State terrorists, White House National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes said in a press briefing on Thursday.

"We want to work with other countries and have a discussion about how can we increase the flow of support, equipment to those Syrian forces who are fighting against ISIL [Islamic State] on the ground," Rhodes stated.

He noted that additional support to the Syrian fighters will be one of the areas Obama "will be talking to other leaders about going forward."

"He [Obama] already has [talked about the issue] throughout the course of this trip," Rhodes added.

Obama is currently attending an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in the Philippines, where he arrived after a G20 summit in Turkey.

At the same time, Chinese authorities have an interest in intelligence cooperation with the United States to counter Islamic State activities, Ben Rhodes said.

"As we look at foreign fighter flows, there have been people who have gone from China into Syria," Rhodes stated. "So like every other nation who’s seen that challenge, they have an interest in working with us on an intelligence basis, most likely to counter terrorism and counter ISIL [Islamic State]."

Earlier this week, media reported the Islamic State had executed a citizen of China and another citizen of Norway.

Earlier on Thursday, China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Chinese citizen Fan Jinghui was kidnapped and killed by Islamic State terrorists.

The Chinese government strongly condemned the killing and pledged to bring those responsible for the act to justice.
