“I feel that the gun-free zones and, you know, when you say that, that’s target practice for the sickos and for the mentally ill. That’s target. They look around for gun-free zones,” Trump said at the debate on Wednesday hosted by the CNBC channel.
Trump added that he personally had a special permit to carry a gun in New York and did it “on occasion, sometimes a lot.”
“I think gun-free zones are a catastrophe. They’re a feeding frenzy for sick people,” Trump stressed.
Over the past year, the United States has seen a growing number of mass shooting incidents, including three school shootings this October. In other cases, shooters have opened fire in churches, movie theaters, and military facilities.
More than 50 percent of US citizens think the country should tighten its gun control laws, according to a recent poll by Gallup.
