A video is rapidly going viral of a school resource officer in South Carolina choking and slamming a high school student who was sitting at her desk.

The incident took place on Monday at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, and was captured on camera by two different students from different angles.

"The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused," Sheriff Leon Lott told WIS-TV. "The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the SRO."

The videos captured the teenage girl sitting at her desk in her classroom when Officer Ben Fields approached and grabbed her before wrapping his arm around her throat.  The desk flips over as he throws her to the ground and out of view of the camera.

Reporter Shaun King stated that both students and graduates have told him that Fields has been brutal like this for years.

The girl had reportedly been verbally disruptive of the class, not violent.

Prior to police becoming a regular presence in schools, which should be safe spaces for our children, this seems like it would have been the type of matter you would be sent to the principal’s office and had your parents called over.

If this sort of assault was conducted at home by a parent, or really anyone without a badge it would be correctly considered child abuse.

"Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color," a group calling themselves the Richland Two Black Parents Association wrote in a statement. "As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children”.

Following the video going viral, the school district announced that Officer Fields has been "banned" pending the outcome of an investigation.

The repulsive and supremacist sickness in all American forces, and their repulsive tyrant demanded compulsory, government-led education.

She has no right to disrupt class. If she doesn't want to be in school there should not be a law requiring her to be there.

What's sick about this event is that NO ONE IN THAT CLASSROOM DID ANYTHING TO STOP THAT SCHOOL GUARD !!! The students, the teacher, EVERYONE, JUST SAT THERE WATCHING, watching watching watching ... like they were watching a TV show or seeing something happening on Facebhook. Why didn't the teacher rush over, shouting "THAT'S ENOUGH !!! ", grab that brutal school guard around HIS throat in a choke hold, and drag HIM off that young (black) teenage FEMALE STUDENT, and throw HIM onto the schoolroom floor onto his big fat belly ??
And why did the young girl's classmates just SIT THERE, watching watching watching and going nothing ?? Why did they just sit there watching and NOT jumping in to stop the brutalizing they were seeing happening right there before their eyes ??? Obviously, for those American students sitting motionless in that classroom their FEAR OF REPRISAL from authorities was much, much, stronger than their a belief that in America common sense and justice far, far, overrules that classroom guard's very, very, limited schoolyard authority.

Amerika just can't sink much lower, there isn't a single value the US can give to my country.

BTW, I don't think she has a lawsuit. I know that's what everyone in the US likes. He actually did use the correct amount of force. He did not have his arm around her neck. He kept control of her at all times so she didn't get hurt. At that point, she could have had a knife or anything. If you watch the video, she was sitting there like she was trying to get him close. He checked her hands, cleared her from the desk and gave clear commands about what she was to do for the arrest. I know objectivity is not what everyone wants, but he probably didn't exceed any use of force. His technique was actually technically proficient.

jas, There is nothing "technically proficient" about this.

The officer was out of line when he dragged the girl to the ground and threw her like a rag doll to the door!

Have you even read the part that says: "Prior to police becoming a regular presence in schools, which should be safe spaces for our children, this seems like it would have been the type of matter you would be sent to the principal’s office and had your parents called over."??

The evil empire is truly evil on all levels ......

jetscan2nl, I said some may not be prepared for an objective analysis of his actions. He was trying to get her out of the class peacefully to the principals office and she refused that option.

Like I said in my other post. If she doesn't want to be there, I don't think she should be there.
