WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US authorities have detained a suspect in the shooting incident near the Texas Southern University (TSU) campus that left one person dead and one injured, Houston Police Department said in a Twitter message on Friday.
"One person fatally shot, one wounded at 3545 Blodgett, an apartment complex near TSU campus," the message read. "A possible suspect is detained."
Earlier on Friday, authorities placed the TSU on lockdown after receiving reports of a shooting.
Following the incident, one person died in a hospital having sustained a critical injury, according to media reports. The other victim remains in stable condition.
Texas Southern University is a historically African American university with about 9, 600 students and 350 administrative staff.
