Belgian Doctors Euthanize Patients Without Their Consent
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — California Governor Jerry Brown’s approval of legislation allowing euthanasia will inspire other US states to legalize the practice, advocacy group Death With Dignity National Center Vice President George Eighmey told Sputnik.

“The governor's decision is certain to reverberate across the nation,” Eighmey said on Tuesday.

On Monday, Brown approved legislation giving physicians the power to administer lethal doses of drugs to terminally ill patients who want to die.

“The enormity of our victory in California cannot be overstated,” Eighmey said. “We've achieved monumental progress for all Americans who want the freedom to make their own end-of-life decisions.”

In September, the California Senate passed the End of Life Options Act allowing terminally ill patients with half a year or less to live as estimated by two different doctors, to end their own lives with a physician’s supervision.

About two dozen US states introduced euthanasia legislation in 2015, but none of the bills have so far become law.
