MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US health officials have confirmed this year’s first death from the West Nile virus in North Carolina, local media reported.
According to the WTVD channel, it was also the first reported case of the disease this year.
People are being encouraged to take precautions, as the infection usually has either none or mild symptoms.
According to the media outlet, there have been 13 cases of the disease reported
The West Nile virus is a flu-like virus which can become lethal in severe cases. The virus can also cause more serious conditions, such as encephalitis, meningitis and meningoencephalitis.
