WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Despite her weakening popularity among core Democratic voters, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remains far more popular among younger voters than all major Republican candidates, a Zogby Analytics (ZA) poll shows.
"[W]hen…Clinton is matched against leading Republicans among Millennials [Americans aged from 18 to 34], she is walloping them," the poll, conducted on August 25 and released on Wednesday, said.
The poll found that the Republican Party is suffering both from a serious split caused by disagreements over policies and from the upheaval it is experiencing follow the unexpected emergence of billionaire businessman Donald Trump as the most popular presidential candidate among core Republican voters.
"[Trump] is casting a shadow over everyone else," the Zogby Analytics release said.
"They are more inclusive, more concerned about poverty in their community and worldwide, and more supportive of efforts to reduce carbon emissions," the release said.
The poll also revealed that if younger voters turned out to vote in large numbers in the 2016 presidential election, "the GOP [Republican Party] faces nothing short of a catastrophic election."
"It is hard to not conclude that there is something wrong here for the GOP," ZA chief John Zogby commented in a press release. "Certainly, Mrs. Clinton has serious flaws and that alone can make this race competitive."
John Zogby is an internationally renowned pollster, opinion leader and best-selling author, according to the Zogby Analytic Polls website.
