WASHINGTON (Sputnik) –  ABC News reported that Texas inmate Daniel Lopez asked the Supreme Court justices to suspend his scheduled execution on Wednesday night and disregard the lower court ruling that Lopez was competent to stand trial.

Attorneys for Lopez argued that he has a mental illness and the condition caused him to use the US legal system to end his life.

The higher court disagreed with Lopez’s lawyers and state attorneys refused any delay in his execution, according to media.

Lopez killed Corpus Christi, Texas police officer Stuart Alexander with his car during a police chase.
