After travel sanctions relief, the domestic US airline JetBlue has officially announced direct flights from New York to Havana.

JetBlue became the first major carrier to provide direct flights from New York's Kennedy Airport to Havana's Jose Marti International Airport.

The first passengers showed excitement, expressing they felt like they went down in history on the first flight on Friday.

"This is something we're gonna talk about for years and years and years; this is an opportunity for American people to go to Cuba," said New York based Carlos Infante, who flew a direct charter to his home country for the first time.

The weekly non-stop flights will be provided by Cuba Travel Services every Friday at noon and land in Havana at 3.30 p.m. local time.

Although US citizens are technically still not allowed to travel the island, US citizens and residents can visit for family reasons or official business with the US government without any special permission.
