US Weapons Costs Soar in Engineering Stage of Acquisition Process
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Defense Department and the Government Services Administration do not share information on a regular basis, according to the Government Accountability Office press release, regarding opportunities to maximize military real estate capacity.

“The Government Accountability Office recommends that DOD and GSA collaborate to enhance routine information sharing concerning non-DOD federal agencies seeking workspace at military installations,” the release said.

They may be missing opportunities to reduce or avoid costs, the release explained, by failing to adequately utilize federal property.

Both agencies agreed, according to the release, to take action to help ensure that government-owned assets are used to capacity.

The Defense Department’s real estate property includes 562,000 facilities with an estimated value of $850 billion, the release said.

The Government Services Administration’s objective is to deliver the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to the US government.

The Government Accountability Office is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress and investigates how the US federal government spends taxpayer dollars.
