MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — The suspension of Barack Obama's Executive Order on immigration proves that the separation of powers in the United States works efficiently, the communications director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) told Sputnik on Friday.
"It’s a very good sign that at least one branch of the American government – the judiciary – respects separation of powers and understands that the president can’t just make up laws," Bob Dane stated.
He added that immigration should not be used for cheap labor or partisan issues.
Dane concluded that Barack Obama should not be permitted by Congress to exceed presidential authority because of a possible creation of a precedent.
"The White House erroneously believes that immigration enforcement is entirely in the federal domain. That’s the rub, that’s the problem… ideally, immigration enforcement is the domain of both the state and the local level."
FAIR's communications director added that the federal government is "obsessed with ceasing centralized power and using it to gut immigration control," but at the same time fails to use federal power to penalize US states that create a welcoming environment for undocumented migrants.
President Obama’s Executive Order aimed to protect estimated 5 million undocumented immigrants from being deported from the United States and provide them with work permits.
